Ricoh R1s--viewed from front, top, and back

The Slim Beauty
Pretty, slim, stylish, and capable. R1 is a slim beauty in the world of modern compacts.

Introduced in 1993 (yes that long ago!), Ricoh R1 is the beginning of a successful line that includes the famous GR1 series.

- about the 24mm -
Unlike those funny "pseudo-panorama" mode on other p&s that is just done by two shades blocking the top & bottom, R1/R1s has a real 24mm lens for its super wide mode. Alas a max. aperture of f/8... had better use it on bright sunny days. Another thing is, it's also got the shades that block the top & bottom. This means when you get the 4x6 prints from lab, those in the panorama mode would actually come as a little strip of view, with black top & bottom. Some R1 users manage to remove the shades, and get a full-frame 24mm. That makes sense to me.;-)

*: R1s looks almost the same as R1, but its lens is multi-coated, as the lettering MC suggested. .
*: If the Film Rewind Button is pressed whilst it is rewinding, the film leader will remain outside.
